Has anyone heard back from the University of Pennsylvania?

Post by dexter » Tue Mar 12, 2013 4:28 pm

I'm wondering if anyone has been admitted to UPenn Pure Math. If you know that you are wait-listed or not accepted, please go ahead and report it here. It appears that UPenn is one of those schools that will fill their class completely before releasing all their rejections, which I think is pretty cruel (at least reject those that aren't on a shortlist, right?).

I was about to ask this exact same question. For a school that requires applications to be submitted Dec. 15 they certainly don't appear to be in any hurry to get information back to applicants.

Last year, and according to the survey, some people were notified of their rejection as late as April 12!

From February 23rd of 2011 on Grad Cafe,
To the Penn acceptance below: please decline your offer as soon as you know. The departments wants to enroll 12 new students but the graduate school does not allow them to make more than 12 offers at a time. You need to turn down your offer before it goes to someone else. (Most departments accept more students than they plan to enroll assuming that many will turn down the offer, but Penn is not allowed to do that anymore. It will be a long exhausting trickle down game until all spots are filled.)
This is discouraging :(

I'm still waiting to hear from UPenn. It's one of my top choices so I feel like making a decision about what school I go to will be impossible without hearing from UPenn first. I'm considering sending them an email. For some reason I'm slightly scared that doing so could hurt my admission chances but I'm probably just being paranoid.

Does anyone know who should I contact at UPenn regarding admissions decisions?

I haven't heard anything. I'm assuming I didn't get in.

I got the rejection e-mail this morning. It's all good, I have already decided to accept an offer from a different Ivy.

someone_else, was it an official notification from the graduate school, or a departmental email? Congrats on making your decision!
