If you don't mind, when did you get the offer? And did you post on thegradcafe?

Sure. I got the offer on the 11th of February. One of the posters in gradcafe that night was me.

No need to worry. From what I understand, that is considered a good omen in Japan and UK.

If a program says "You are going to be admitted provided that there are no document issues" What are document issues?? Does anyone know? Like is it residency/ US citizenship/ VISA etc.?

Those things and your official transcripts, I would guess. Be sure to ask them. Congrats on the admit!

Thanks! It was for Ohio State because I inquired about my admissions status and got that reply as my application still says "Incomplete" so hopefully all goes well and I get the actual admissions letter sometime this week as well as a "Complete" status.

for those applying to uic and not getting a response yet:

"Thank you for your interest in our graduate program. We are processing all admissions applications at this time, and will contact you as soon as we have more definite information. Applicants can also check their application status online starting in mid March. We will enter admissions decisions there, as soon as they are made."

Were you talking about Applied or Pure? For Applied, I called them and was told that they have not sent out their first-round offers yet and will do in mid March.

I applied for pure math (algebraic geometry).

Based on the last two years on gradcafe, it looks like we have a week or two before they will send decisions. Which is frustrating because they are the ones I'd like to hear from the most.

Thanks for the info. So, the sole admit in Stony Brook AMS in early Feb was probably fake.

@dangxing and cooltrainer

I saw the post on GradCafe. Any particular reason to believe it is an entire first round/primary round of offers? Could it be this was just the "fellowship round" for top applicants?

They told me via email on March 4th, 2013:

"We have sent out our first round of offers via email and the review committee is still in the review process for the second round."

I thought I'd share the following response from Toronto which I received 10 days ago:

"Final decisions on international admissions for both master's and PhD programs have not yet been finalized. There may be an answer in the next couple of weeks."

which means decisions will probably be out this week, unless they already sent out their decisions

How does Toronto's department compare to US departments? In analysis and PDE?

They say somewhere on their website that they are among the top 15 graduate programs in North America and they are the top program in Canada, no idea about their strength in any particular field though

I am not sure actually, however here are 2 pieces of info that I found on their website which I couldn't make much out of:

"Currently the department has 127 graduate students, of whom 26 are enrolled in the Master’s program, 98 in the Ph.D. program, and 3 in non-degree programs. "

"only a small number of openings is available for international applicants."

Did you apply for masters, phd, or doctoral-stream masters ?

I applied for the doctoral stream masters (which is just a year of courses before the start of the thesis work in the phd) since i only have a bachelor's degree, I was told by the secretary that all applications are considered for all programs so don't worry about it.

So close and yet so far. I have already survived three months of waiting, but I don't know how I am going to get through the next 3 days of it.

Looking back, I think it is safe to say that previous years data(the holy scriptures of GC) is a very good indication of the expected dates of results. I think I have been somewhat right in guessing(based solely on GC) the expected dates for all the schools I applied to except Cornell CAM.

There have been some rejections for UW on gradcafe lately. They had a few acceptances up and now there's been a string of rejections. Looking at last year they sent out some accepts in the middle of April last year. So who knows what will happen.

I just emailed Columbia, asking about my status. I got this, quite uninformative, reply:
We expect that the faculty committee on admissions will return Ph.D. decisions by mid to late March. You will be notified via email when a decision has been reached.

Does your status on "Buckeyelink" say Incomplete still, or does it say In Review?

Generally, yes, this is considered an offensive/derogatory term.
