Breaking the 80% barrier

Post by yoyostein » Sun Jun 03, 2012 3:35 am

Any tips for breaking the 80% barrier?

After 2 attempts I managed to improve from 30+% to 60+% percentile, but I do not have any idea how to break the 80% barrier, which seems to get harder and harder over time (due to the score scaling).

For the first attempt, I only practiced the first and second practice papers, for the second attempt, I practiced all the 4 practice papers.

Any tips or guidance will be greatly appreciated.

The first two practice test are by far the easiest. An approach that worked for me was to get my hands on every practice test available, ( the 4 ETS ones, the Princeton Review one, and the 6 crappy REA ones) and take all of them. A large part of doing well on the GRE is working under time pressure; try to optimize both your speed and your accuracy.

These websites have the 4 GRE tests:

http://www.math.ucsb.edu/mathclub/GRE.html (This has 3 of the 4 practice tests)

http://www.ets.org/s/gre/pdf/practice_book_math.pdf (This is the most recent practice test provided by ETS)
