Self-taught Quant, Independent Trader & Researcher, PhD?

Post by KaviSiromani » Fri May 18, 2012 2:11 am

Quant Trader (taught myself, ode, pde, machine learning, bayesian networks, advanced statistics, probability, some quantum finance)

Have worked thru' several books on analysis, calculus, geometry, and some on topology. (informally taught several undergrad and grad math tuitions to students (ofcourse for $$$), but no proof (& no tax :) )

Willing to go for PhD Applied Mathematics in US.Few people suggested MS and then PhD, but being higher on age now (26), I wish I could get into PhD directly...(not even sure MS app will be accepted)

feedback.....

Since your work experience is in computer science, I would suggest you to try your options for Phd in Machine Learning which emphasize strong background in Statisitics, Computer Science. See CMU UAMHERST, University of Pennsylvania and much more... Better try to get General GRE score, Computer science, Mathematics. If you prepare for GATE Computer science, I bet you can crack it very wisely. Still lot of areas in Speech recognition (CMU Sphinx best known open source speech recognition till date), Image processing really requires good and profound algorithm. Never regret for learning anything. You can even contribute for open source. I bet you know better ...
