Do I have a chance at getting into a Ph.D. program?

Post by JDeighton21 » Tue Jun 11, 2019 12:23 pm

School: Calvin College
GPA: 3.9
Math GPA:4.0
A's received so far in Complex Analysis, Multivariable Calc, Linear Algebra... Taking Real Analysis, Nonlinear Dynamics and Abstract this year.

GRE Quant:160 (74th percentile)
GRE Verbal 154 (65th percentile)
GRE MATH: Taking this fall, I think I'll do decent.

Summer's research experience at my home institution.

Do I have a shot at getting into a Ph.D. program? If so, how prestigious?

The best advice on this sort of thing will come from your professors and possibly any alumni of Calvin College. I do happen to know of a Calvin alum with lesser credentials who was recently admitted to a nice PhD program. Would you be fine with me shooting you a private message so that you may contact the Calvin alum mentioned here?

You might consider retaking the general GRE test since your scores are not particularly great. A higher score on the quantitative section would certainly improve your prospects. Good luck on the math GRE!
