That is unfortunate. It sucks that many schools may not even consider you nowadays if you don't take graduate courses—it really puts a barrier for students at liberal arts colleges.

I am already in my 5th year (I joined math major my 3rd year... didn't even (re)take Calc 2 until end of my second year). So I will graduate in May, but if I wanted to take more classes to add to my degree I could... My main concern is that I am already in so much debt from undergrad. I emailed my advisor for advice on a potential "gap" year. I really don't wanna give up yet :(

Don't give up hope! It's always smart to have a back-up plan, but you can't count yourself out until you hear from every school.

Keep the faith y'all. I got nothing so far. Once I get 9 more rejects you'll find me in the library with a practice math gre. Till then, you and I got much better things to do.

Blah. 5 rejections out of 5 decisions so far. TBH I expected as much, but this the waiting is making it hard to focus on writing my thesis.

2 rejections out of 2 decisions so far...I know I have 8 schools whose decisions are still out, but my confidence is starting to waver. Some kind of good news would be nice...

I've personally still got 10 more schools to go as well; I think that it's gonna get crazy once March rolls around, just you wait! :)

Today I got two decisions. Rejection from Harvard's SEAS and then acceptance from Colorado, Boulder for pure math.

I just got waitlisted by UVA as well. Anybody knows the general possibility of getting off the waitlist or the number of people a school usually puts on its list? From the posts on gradcafe in the past, I'm terribly afraid that I will eventually receive a rejection in Apr...

At this point, why don't they just sit down and send out rejections to the profiles they skipped over or those that didn't make the "cut off." I know they just wait to reject too. Or send us a waitlist notification already! so frustrating

Does anyone have information on the Columbia open house on March 22/23? When should we arrive by? Will we be housed? Will they reimburse our travel expenses?

I was waitlisted and invited to the open house, but I haven't been contacted in almost 3 weeks since then. I'm not sure how I should proceed, if I should go ahead and purchase the tickets. However, I'm from California, so it will take me about 6 hours to get there, so I was also wondering if I should come on the 21st instead.

Thank you!

Emailed all the school to ask about my status, received lots of wait-lists... Most of them mentioned my positions are low... :(

I'm not posting stats until after 4/15, but in case this info helps anyone, schools I've heard back from so far:

Accepted to Michigan State and UVA (will likely visit both on visit days later in March)
Rejected from UIUC yesterday (3/1)
Got wait listed at Ohio State yesterday (3/1) - they sent out a literal wait list with about 60 names on it in order that told you exactly where you are
Have not heard back from Purdue, Penn State, Vanderbilt, Texas (assuming rejected from all, maybe a wait list in there)

Sorry I have some dumb questions. How do you know that you are in the wait-list of any university?
Will they send you an email to tell you that you are ranked in the list, or you have to figure this out by sending the Grad office an email?
Will contacting them hurt my chance? (I'm an international student)
Thank you.

Sometimes they may email you on their own (this happened to me with Indiana University, for example). Sometimes you have to ask them via email, and then they will tell you (this happened to me with UC Davis, for example). They don't always tell you where you are ranked on the list, as none of the schools that have wait-listed me so far have mentioned a rank at all. In fact, my contact at UC Davis told me they don't even rank their wait-list.

Contacting them won't hurt your chances at all. Just be polite. :D

I didn't hear back from Penn, Rutgers, UIUC, Minnesota, Michigan, Stony Brook... Does it mean that I'm rejected from all of these?

Both the posters above:

I haven't heard from UGA either.. they did their visitation weekend in Feb...

Penn state, UPenn haven't said a word.. although i have a feeling that is tacit rejection

For Michigan, I emailed them and they claimed they were reviewing my application, and the committee had not made a decision yet. I will take it as waitlist.
For Minnesota, I emailed them but they did not reply (yet).

Thank you very much for your reply. I can see just a couple of acceptances from UGA in Gradcafe but that seems to be the norm.

Heyyy alll, whooo got into Cornell?

My partner was admitted into their physics program, and I'm on the waitlist. If anyone was admitted but knows they're not going to accept, please let admissions know :D. We would love to head there.

Also, does anyone know the dates of their visiting days?

!!!!! URGENT!!!!!!!!

Has anyone been rejected from University of Michigan or Penn State or University of Maryland? They clearly have sent first round of acceptances and can only accept so many people now (if someone refuses to matriculate).

Why are they not rejecting folks? They can't possibly waitlist everyone who applied.

Branching off this, does anyone have any idea what stage UIUC is at in their admissions process? Ex: Are all first round offers out / have people received info about being waitlisted?

I got an email a few weeks back saying they were interested in my app, but haven't heard a peep since :<

They told me they have sent out all first round offers. If you haven't heard anything, it's possible that you are on their wait list. The director told me that once you are admitted, the chance of eventually getting accepted is very low, e.g. they did not admit a single person on their wait list last year. :(

Thanks for the info, I actually got an email earlier today notifying me I was on the waitlist. The director confirmed told me the same - chances of getting in off the waitlist are slim.

If I haven't heard back from Purdue or Washu at this point should I assume rejections? I emailed both schools and neither could tell me my status. I'm just wondering if it's unlikely to get an acceptance at this point.

Has anyone received any offers from Brandeis University? I emailed them three weeks ago and was told I'm on the "short list" and that they'd get back to me in a few weeks. But I haven't heard anything, nor I have seen anything on Gradcafe.

Also on the short list, and was told that admission decisions will be made shortly after the open house taking place next week.
