So it's April 15th

What school did you choose, and why?

I was accepted to UCSC, Rochester and Purdue. I chose Purdue because it was clearly the better school. They flew me out there and I had a good time. I'm nervous about living in the midwest, that does not sound fun. However the school is very nice.

I was accepted into 6 out of 15 schools, ranging from 3rd to 73rd, because I applied to such a large range not knowing which would accept. They are UC Santa Cruz, CU Boulder, UC Davis, Stony Brook, Rutgers, and UC Berkeley.

About a month or so before decisions were due, I decided that no non-Berkeley school could take me away from Rutgers, so it came down to Rutgers vs Berkeley, which was an incredibly difficult decision for me to make. Rutgers is just super awesome in every way and it will always be the one that got away. Ultimately, I chose Berkeley because it had been my dream school all along and I could not imagine myself not going. But if there were two of me, the other would definitely have chosen Rutgers above the others in a heartbeat.

I was accepted to applied math programs at UCLA, UCSD, purdue, GaTech, RPI, and maryland.

I chose UCLA because their placement into tech industry jobs is really good, and their applied faculty are working on the coolest research. I also really enjoyed my visit.

Congrats! Great choice. At least you can have a chance to work with the BEST mathematician in Analysis/PDE: Terry Tao:) Btw, you meant you got accepted into the AMSC program at UMD?

Yes, I was actually accepted to ASMC at UMD an hour after I accepted the offer from ULCA so I didn't really get a chance to consider them. I don't think terry tao does much if any research in scientific computing so I doubt I will be working with him (at least not directly).

I was accepted to do analysis (functional most likely) in Pittsburgh, GWU, University of Oregon and Kent State. I am still making my mind between the last two. Although I am still on the "waitlist" at my top choices Texas A&M and NYU Courant, I do not think I will get into one of those (at least not today ). So I have a couple of hours to decide between Oregon and Kent.

Edit: In the end I chose The University Of Oregon. I am very happy with my decision, but It was a very difficult one, I think Kent is a great place to do analysis, they have a wonderful and friendly department.

Was accepted to the pure math programs at Northwestern, UC Irvine, and Notre Dame. I'm going to Northwestern because it has a lot of good people working in my intended field.

Whether it is okay and legal to accept the later offer from NYU/TAMU if you have accepted an offer from a university before 15 April.

Good to know, but does today counts as before April 15?

Nope! However, it's the same situation.

Courant was my dream school, and while I was accepted, I found out quickly living in Manhattan wasn't for me. I ended up falling in love with University of Washington's applied math program anyway, so that's where I'll be!

I ended up at the UIC pure math program, which is the best offer I got.
I am really glad, because this program is a good fit for my interests, and I had very positive experience being at the department. Also, there are a lot of international grad student at the UIC math program, which is a big plus for me. And, it turned out, I like Chicago.

My friend was a graduate student at UCSC. She and 6 other students (out of 10) who got accepted there three years ago, have dropped the program. She said the department is very small, and the fund is limited, so during the first two years, they expect students to complete everything (Qualifying, Oral, and Language exams), otherwise they pressure students that there will be no funding for the third year, and they have to get a master, and leave the program ASAP. Almost all of the students have to work 20h/w. So there is no time studying and getting ready for the prelims.
I heard that the city and campus of university of Santa Cruz is absolutely beautiful, unfortunately it seems like the program is not that interesting...
