Yeah I'm in the same boat, man. It's unwise to take this stuff personally, as you never know what any school is looking for and Princeton has their choice of just about anyone.
After all, the one acceptance to Princeton reported on GradCafe has lower GPA and test scores than us, so he must have wowed them with LORs and research experience and had contact with a potential advisor. Factor that in with the possibility of only one or two spots opening for (fill in field of interest) candidates and there's nothing to hang your head about. Anyway, looking at your profile, I doubt there was much deficient in your app!
Yes, absolutely! There are so many factors they're considering and the crazy stiff competition that there's no reason to take it personally. That post was made within minutes of reading the rejection, so
Which is the top place you're hoping for Fw1812?

For such top programs, actually these data do not mean much, what they value most is your potential in doing outstanding research. I guess the people in the admission committee will read your preprints/publications. They are all big names in the field, and maybe just within a glimpse they can measure your research potential.
No offense, and congratulations on your being admitted to Yale!
Don't get me wrong, I definitely had no expectations of getting into Princeton - much the opposite, in fact! I just meant that it would be nice if the rejection was due to a mismatch of interests (Princeton doesn't seem to have many faculty in my area of interest, and I applied mainly because it's *Princeton*) rather than research potential not being impressive enough, etc. It could of course be anything.
Thanks! Where have you applied, btw? Mind sharing your profile?
