Math graduate admission question

Post by kfcchicken98 » Sat Oct 10, 2015 9:11 pm

I'm currently a junior in mathematics at UIUC. I have been doing pretty well in my math courses (2 courses in real analysis, 1 linear and 1 abstract algebra, 1 topology) so far, and I'm having mostly A and A+. I will be completing a graduate course in topology, a second course in abstract algebra, and a complex analysis course before I graduate. My question is: Do graduate schools care more about my math courses grades more or my general GPA more? I feel that I can work hard to maintain good grades in my math courses, but my other courses ( some general education courses) are not that good (some B and C's). Will those general education courses hurt my chances of getting to good grad schools?

Whether it hurts you or not, imo it's pointless to worry about that aspect of your profile. Though it may sound not much of an advice, this is my 2cent :)
