UIC grad appointment form

Post by avemarya » Fri Dec 27, 2013 7:05 pm

Anybody here applying to UIC? My question has to do with the grad appointment form essay. In what way would the contents of this essay be any different than that of the personal statement?

also applying there, their application form is awful IMO

Are you referring to the essay for this? http://grad.uic.edu/pdfs/grad_appt.pdf

My guess is that this essay would be more tailored to the TAship/RAship/fellowship you're trying to get. For example, if you're applying for a TAship, elaborate more on your past teaching experiences than you did on your personal statement.

Although the directions on the form don't really state that, and just seems like they want a redundant personal statement... (maybe other programs don't require personal statements) This essay does however have a word limit, which the statement does not.

Sorry if that's not helpful--I am curious now too. Someone help us out!

yes, that is the form. well, I ended up doing that, but I checked for more than one possible type of funding. Hopefully that doesn't come across as too scatter-brained or all over the place, though my emphasis was more on the teaching. whatevs... it's been done now. and yeah, their application is one of the more awful. I've had a string of those as of late.
