School Range

Post by ded8381 » Tue Nov 09, 2010 11:43 pm

Hi -- I went to a small liberal arts college for Math, no research experience. Assuming everything else on the application is good, (80% GRE, 3.7 GPA, Good Letters of Rec, etc...) -- what range of schools should I aim for -- and which should I avoid?

We don't know your capacity for success in doctoral schools. However, your professors do. You should ask them for suggestions as they are likely to pick schools that are appropriate for your skill level (making you more likely to succeed) and where they likely know more people (thus giving their LORs more weight).

That being said, it is my person opinion that if money is not an issue you would be remiss if you didn't apply to at least one far reach school and at least one fall back school.
