Credit by examination for Master's degree

Postby MathisMath » Mon May 13, 2019 6:24 pm

Does anyone know of any Master's degrees in which each course grade is 100% based on the final exam? I'm interested in the possibility of getting a Master's degree by certifying my knowledge through just a handful of exams, rather than having a couple years worth of assignments, quizzes, meetings, etc. Obviously this system would have drawbacks too, but I'm still interested.

I have found something fairly close to what I'm talking about: ... ations/f04

If you poke around in the satisfaction surveys, it looks like for at least some classes, grading is 100% based on the final exam. However, this program seems very limited in its offerings and may have some other difficulties, so I'm interested in knowing what else is out there.

(If it matters, I have a Bachelor's in the humanities but since graduation have taken and aced several math and statistics classes. I have some quantitative work experience as well as a 780 on the GRE Math Subject Test. Letters of recommendation are a challenge but not an insurmountable one. In general, I think I could make a reasonable application but would not be trying for the most competitive programs.)
