Stony Brook offers less amount of funding for its PhD compared with most universities. It is also in New York, and the living cost is high. Is 22500$(9 months) a reasonable amount of stipend for PhD students at Stony Brook?

You could look online for apartments around the area. Factor in other living expenses and compare that to your paychecks you'd receive. Also see if there is summer opportunity - else you would maybe have to travel home every summer!

Not at all. I mean they asked about my REU experience which was the only part where some technical details were involved, but I do not think they will ask anyone to state a theorem or so on.mhq wrote:Was the interview technical?Taylor wrote:Yes, I just got the offer after an interview today.mishania1996 wrote:Have you got an offer from Stony ?

I too have gotten into SB and got around the same amount. Did you receive acceptance to pure or applied math? It seems a bit low, since apartments are $1000+ even for a studio (at least when I looked it was around that). They also said that normally students make $10,000 during the summers from internships/research.

I am in for pure math, what about you? I think if students can make $10,000 every summer then it sounds fine.user1287 wrote:I too have gotten into SB and got around the same amount. Ahh, I'm in the applied math dept. And yeah, they said around $10,000 or so - but that depends on the prof you work for (or internship).
