I haven't received anything, but I decided to withdraw and I wrote them an email... Not only they haven't replied to my email, but there isn't anything on my app page indicating I withdrew, so idk what's happening with Rice..
Thanks for replying. That is strange... I hope they release decisions soon.

I applied for the PhD program in Pure Math and Statistics. I was interviewed on 25.01 and they told that decisions will be made by the end of February.

I haven't heard anything back from Utah. I think the students who posted the results on grad cafe were nominated for fellowships, so they were informed early.

It sucks to not be among the first round of offers. That means we have to wait even longer.

Thank you for replying. I think the admissions procedures for the PhD and MASt programs are different. No interviews for the latter, I suppose. Let's hope our decision comes in February as well.

Has anyone heard back from Utah, Missouri, Minnesota, and Texas A&M? There were 1-2 entries from each of these schools on grad cafe last week. Have these schools made their complete first round of offers? I'm not so sure about it.

Edit: According to a professor at Minnesota, no offers have been made as of yet. Not sure what to make of the entry on grad cafe.

Still wait for response of Utah and Missouri, and receive nothing yet. Actually concerning my low profile I don’t think I will receive any admission on the first round. Good luck for you.

It probably takes time to process rejections and make sure every application has been viewed & decided upon. They have many more rejections to send out than acceptances and waitlists.

That is probably the reason it took Chicago exactly a month to send out rejections, and MIT / Stanford still haven't sent out theirs even though they sent out their admissions 3 weeks ago.

Do you all think that emailing a program that you've heard nothing from is a bad idea? I'm worried that it could increase the likelihood of getting rejected.

I don't think it does. If anything, it shows that you're quite interested in their program. Of course this depends on how you word the email.

Right, these places have 460/500 rejections

Despite your desire to have some sort of feedback, I would avoid inquiring about your status until March simply out of respect for how busy the admissions committee is this time of year. But if you haven't heard back by March, either you've been waitlisted or the program has been fairly inconsiderate in failing to notify you in a timely manner, so it would make sense to reach out at that point.

Based on admissions results, it seems like no one really receives admission into more than 4 or 5 top 10 programs. Are they quite specific in the type of students that they are looking for?

None of us on are on the committees for these things, so you probably won't get a completely accurate response. However, I think most of the top 10 schools have some baseline qualities they want from students. This is typically the "first filter". Now moving beyond that you still have a large pool of extremely qualified students. You have students who were top of their class, perfect GPA(or at the very least 3.9+), perfect exam scores, research experience, publications, math competition prize winners,IMO winners etcetera... Now the last few attributes(e.g. Putnam,IMO, ...) are icing on the cake but they aren't necessary to get into a top 10 school. However, the first few attributes do demonstrate that the student is diligent, can handle graduate coursework, and can focus on working on a project for long durations(i.e. the thesis).

Once these attributes are reviewed you pass a "second filter" so to speak. This is where admissions depends on the committee. The above attributes will also be carefully reviewed along with your letters of recommendations. There's lots of people with good grades and good test scores, so this is where letters of recommendations come into play. Most generic ones(i.e. did good in my class, etcetera...) don't distinguish the candidate from any other one, so if the letters says your a strong student and have great potential as a researcher then that's where it gets interesting. If you notice Princeton has admits with relatively low GPAs being admitted, that's because those students typically have publications already and are already working at a high level with people in their fields. Private schools will have really high standards like these. The public schools(Berkeley, UCLA, Michigan, etcetera...) on the other hand take a more holistic view and balance out these attributes. There are many students at these public schools that came in with more standard curriculums and no publications. The students who got admitted that didn't have one of the first few attributes (high GPA,high test scores, etcetera...) usually had some extenuating life circumstances that created that situation, and again this is where letters of recommendations and the statement of purpose will become important. There are also other factors such as being a minority which is also factored into decisions at these public institutions, but that's a bit less clear what they do in those cases.

At the end of the day the committee just wants reliable candidates that can do well and finish their program. They are making a pretty long term investment(5 years, $125000) in you after all.

The open house was yesterday and the day before. So far, I don't think offers have been sent. Judging by the number of people there versus the number of students they probably want to take, my guess is that if you weren't invited, things aren't looking good :(
