Yes, I am now hoping I either get into McGill/Waterloo or I get funding from Arizona State. If that doesn't work out, I can always fall back to Kansas State.

Right now, I'm hoping for an offer from McGill or Waterloo. If that doesn't work out, I'm thinking of enrolling in Arizona/State, and then seeing if it'd be possible for me to do well in the first year and then re apply later. Or should I really consider the program at UWO? Any ideas about the strength of the program?
1 year masters programs in Canada are generally just one year of course work. Sometimes there's a small "thesis", but since you still have to do a lot of coursework, it's really just a little project, not a thesis. It does mean you're more prepared for your PhD program, in terms of general background, but not much in terms of research. The 2 year programs with a real masters thesis are research focused instead.

There's some clearly-the-best schools in Canada: McGill, Toronto, UBC, Waterloo (for some subjects). Other schools may have specializations that make them worth mentioning, but in overall reputation those are the top ones. If you can get funded, doing a 1 year masters at McGill or Waterloo would be a much better choice than Western (is this what you've applied for?). Choosing which would have more to do with what your interests are or where you'd prefer to live.

If you don't get an offer from McGill or Waterloo, I'd go to Western for the masters if you get funded - it's less likely to get full funding for a masters in the US.
Yes. The biggest problem seems to be that all these programs last for 3 terms/one academic year. I think UBC's program is of 2 years, but I chose not to apply for it as it was already a high reach program for me.

I'm hoping, if I do well in the PhD program at either Arizona State or Kansas State, that I may be able to transfer after spending two years over there. At least this way, I will have more time to do independent studies/projects and coursework.

Poked UBC last week and was told that all the first round offers for M.Sc. have gone out and second round offers was not certain and that I was very unlikely to receive an offer from them.

I also poked Waterloo last week and was told on Monday that my application for M.Math in pure math was on hold (on the waitlist) and that they are hoping to give me a decision in two to three weeks. They later sent me an unofficial offer on Tuesday.

Are you an international? I was also informed a couple of weeks ago that my application is on hold. I still haven't heard back, though. Who sent you the email? Perhaps I could try poking him/her. I did email the grad program coordinator yesterday, though.

I am a domestic student (Canadian). The email was from an administrator coordinator (pmgrad@uwaterloo.ca).

Oh. I guess international applicants will have to wait even longer. :/ And I sent an email at the same email address yesterday.

Did anyone else get an email saying a decision has been made on their Georgia Tech application this morning?

Rejected (unofficially) from Waterloo:
We have looked at your application and agree that there are many points of quality. However, we have received many good applicants this year and your file did not rank among our top 10 (for non-Canadian MMath applicants). Hence I regret to inform you that it is extremely unlikely we will be able to send you an offer of admission.
Waterloo accepts about only 8-10 international students with funding. This was a long shot anyway. Good luck to those still awaiting results.

Yes, generally just a formality. They have to make sure you satisfy general admission requirements for all graduate students, which are set by the grad division, not the dept. (e.g. 3.0GPA minimum, sometimes TOEFL score cutoffs, etc.).

Yes it does, congratulations!

If you do take UCSB, I recommend driving there. There's very little things that are more beautiful than the drive down Pacific Coast Highway

I just received an email after asking them. They said that first round offers were made already, but usually they have second round offers, which should go out fairly soon.

I just spoke with a professor at Georgia Tech, and he said that a large number of students haven't responded to acceptances, so they're not sure if they can accept students from the waitlist. If you've been accepted to Georgia Tech and don't plan on attending, please let them know. Thanks :D

If you have been accepted to Arizona State University with funding and don't wish to attend this school. please do reject your offer as a lot of us are waiting to know if we'll get funded.

Does any one know what's the matter with NYU - Courant?

In this forum I've only seen people accepted into the Applied Math program, but what's up with the Pure Math one?
Is it safe to assume that, by now, I'm mostly rejected??

At an open house I met someone who has been admitted for Pure Math, so some decisions have been made.

I heard from Simon Fraser this morning that I've been accepted into a two year master program with funding. I'm not happy with my mGRE score, and I feel like I don't have that many graduate level classes, so I think this would be a chance for me to improve my application and get into a better PhD program. Other than the time investment, is there any reason for me not to take this offer and instead go straight into a PhD program at a school that I don't feel that strongly toward?

I am a masters student. I opted for this option because I didn't get in anywhere my first try. But I'm glad it happened. I would've accepted a program I didn't feel strongly about. My masters helped me discover my field of interest and also mature mathematically that much more.

What you are risking is time. I'm not sure how well credits transfer over to other universities. However you may be able to get around this if they have prelim exams to test you out.

Overall I think it's a great decision if you're willing to put in the time. At worst you'll have a masters degree in math and be very hireable in the job market. At best you'll be even more ready to do PhD research and possibly get into a better school.

I have a question. Normally we know that the typical acceptance deadline is 4.15. But this year 4.15 is on Sunday, so does it mean that they will finish their final decision on 4.13 because they will not have business hours on the weekend?

Could someone kindly share some information about UMass amherst? I applied for their pure math PhD program, still nothing heard back. Since there is already some results on gradcafe, so you got informed by inquiry or direct email? Should I poke them now?

I poked all the schools that haven't responded yet. Considering that April 15 is the standard deadline for students to commit to a program, now is a perfectly fine time to poke all your schools.

Thanks for your reply. I am rejected by ALL the schools I've poked by now, I have to be very careful with this place on fingers crossed... Logically I suppose we get informed by inquiry either rejected or wait-listed, correct me if it is not in your case. I think I might wait till the end of this week. Oops...

I contacted Texas A&M, and I was told that while the committee hasn't listed a decision on my application, I am unlikely to get an offer as I didn't make the short list. I think you should definitely politely inquire the schools to inquire about the status of your application. If I hadn't, for instance, contacted Texas A&M, I would have been hopelessly hoping to get an offer from them.

Holy hell, just got an offer from NSF GRF and I'm on 3 waitlists and haven't heard from 4 schools. Making so many calls right now.

Rice University sent Insomnia Cookies to my house with the message "Congratulations!" and I've received no other contact from them???

WHAT IS HAPPENING. I HAVE 12 DAYS TO FIGURE OUT WHAT I'M DOING FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL YEARS AND I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH INFORMATION TO MAKE THAT DECISION.

WHAT IS HAPPENING. I HAVE 12 DAYS TO FIGURE OUT WHAT I'M DOING FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL YEARS AND I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH INFORMATION TO MAKE THAT DECISION.
Congratulations, that’s amazing news! Schools that slept on you will now be fighting for you :)

Thank you! I kind of expected this might be the case. I applied to NSF because I knew I would be a really strong candidate for that (several papers, thesis, great letters, etc.) despite a bad math GRE (590) and mediocre grades (3.86) making me more of a "maybe" candidate for the schools I want to go to. Figured if I can pull in the NSF GRF I may be able to open more doors, since now if schools are worried about me flunking quals I don't do it on their dime. Fingers crossed!

Has anyone heard about their waitlist status from UIUC?

I have some puzzles. I am wondering how will the committee tackle with an offer of fellowship after being rejected. The admission definitely will be gave to the waitlisted applicants. Will the fellowship be gave to the first-round-offer guys replacing his relatively low TAship? I am a little concerned about the money since my TAship is substantially less than the fellowship in the same department.
