Undergraduate Research

Post by bmyb » Mon Nov 07, 2016 9:55 pm

Hi I am not sure how I can get research experience (besides an REU program, but I didnt get into one last summer and I have one summer left and probably wont get into one then either). I'm not an excellent student but I am hoping to change that. As for the research part, it seems nearly impossible for me to be able to do research because I do not have the necessary background. For instance, in probability (which is what I want to study) there are only 3 courses offered and I have done them all. I will attempt to take graduate courses next year, but I still doubt any professor would want me to assist with research. Any tips? Thanks

Have you tried speaking to a professor yet? If you doubt that you have the background to do research, what about an independent study to bridge the gap? You could try talking to a professor about wanting to try research and turn that into an independent study that turns into some sort of research project.
