CU Boulder vs NC State for a PhD in applied math

I am choosing between the following two programs:
  • University of Colorado Boulder (PhD in Department of Applied Mathematics)
  • North Carolina State University (PhD in Department of Mathematics; I would do the applied math track)
My main interests are in applied probability theory, optimization, and computing. Both departments have faculty that are active in all of these fields, although it seems like NC State has more faculty in probability theory and optimization.

I would be very grateful to hear some feedback on these two programs and how they compare. :)

I would choose Colorado, simply because I think they are better at applied math generally.

I was also accepted to Boulder. They have really strong researchers. I don't know much about NC State.

Thanks for the replies guys. I ended up going with Boulder since I think it'll be a good fit, especially with the emphasis on applied math. Perhaps I'll see you this fall, applicant2016, if you also went with Boulder.
