I took my general gre in Nov, 2010. Should I plan to take general GRE again given the fact that I can submit my 2016 applications before the date of expiration? Thanks in advance.

I think so. Technically your scores are still valid until the summer (ETS' year ranges from July-June or something like that). But some schools' websites specifically say they want them within the past 3 or 5 years. I don't know if they actually enforce that. Plus the scores on the old system won't exactly be a red flag, but will make you stand out in a little bit of a negative way.

If you want another opinion, I am actually in the exact same situation and have decided not to retake the general GRE. I took the math subject test this year, so my scores for that are current, and I figure that test matters more than the general anyway. I could retake the general GRE, but I don't think it will make that big a difference, so I am chosing to devote my time to other, more important parts of my application.
