PhD Programs in Mathematical Biology

Post by mj_indefinite » Mon May 25, 2015 5:37 am

Hi, I'll be applying to PhD programs in the fall and I'm interested in applied math, mainly in mathematical biology. I know this is a broad field, so more specifically, I'm interested in dynamical systems and population dynamics, though I'm open to other areas. I'm having some trouble finding schools that are strong in this field, can anyone suggest graduate programs I could look at? Thanks!

That sounds like the stuff people I know who did Biostats Master's were studying. Don't know if Ph.D. programs are common in the field.

I will be doing a master's in mathematical biology at Ohio State. I don't know about the PhD, but I assume it is under the applied math division.

I have heard good things about UC Irvine's program: http://mcsb.uci.edu/

I don't think they have a Ph.D. just yet though, so you may have to apply to an affiliated department.
