Details of GRE 5 year validity rule

Post by xor » Tue Sep 23, 2014 3:00 pm

Hi,

Please do you know if a GRE test taken in November 2009 is still valid for use in this coming admission season i.e. before December? Or will I have to write another GRE?

Or else does it mean that if I submit my application by November then the scores are still valid, but early December it isn't?

Thanks

P.S. This question is actually about the general GRE but I believe the same token should apply to the MGRE. If anyone has any experience or knowledge about this, kindly share.

To answer my own question, apparently the 5 years are not necessarily exact calendar years so my scores won't expire in November.

I called ETS and I was told the results are valid until June 2015 because all results are expunged in June every year for the testing year 5 years earlier.

So glad I don't need to prepare for that in addition to my subject test! (The analytical writing and verbal sections would have needed practice, anyway).

:P
