Last year, it looks like MLK Jr. Day was pretty sleepy. I wonder if we'll get a big week starting tomorrow now that JMM is over...

I know Columbia, Virginia and WUSTL post their phd's placements.... well, the latter two's placements are simply not good.goatman2743 wrote:To come up with a better time killer than refreshing gradcafe, does anyone know of programs which post placement information? It's sucks that this isn't more common for math programs, I know in econ at least basically everyone gives placements.
lol yeah, yikes at the uva and wustl placements. Makes me wonder what placements looks like at the bottom programs. I guess basically everyone goes into industry?yl2868 wrote:I know Columbia, Virginia and WUSTL post their phd's placements.... well, the latter two's placements are simply not good.goatman2743 wrote:To come up with a better time killer than refreshing gradcafe, does anyone know of programs which post placement information? It doesn't seem that bad. http://www.ams.org/profession/data/annu ... y/docsgrtdgoatman2743 wrote:lol yeah, yikes at the uva and wustl placements. Indeed, I am. Congrats on the admit! The results anxiety is just hitting me today. You should startthe Fall 2014 Admissions and Rejections thread. Here's a link to the 2012 thread so you can see a template:ThisFoodIsEW wrote:I heard back from OSU (good news) for statistics which got me in a good mood, but now i'm going crazy waiting to hear from the others.
anyone out there applying to stats?
What exactly does this mean? If everyone accepts their invitation, is everyone else who didn't get an email rejected?ihatepencils wrote:Looks like Chicago's first wave has been released...
That's what I figured...though I'm not positive!rmhism wrote:What exactly does this mean? If everyone accepts their invitation, is everyone else who didn't get an email rejected?ihatepencils wrote:Looks like Chicago's first wave has been released...

I had to do it...Gasquet wrote:So much green on gradcafe. You just know that there is a bloodbath right around the corner. Brace yourselves.
The top tier institutions are giving offers now, which has nothing to do with meGasquet wrote:So much green on gradcafe. You just know that there is a bloodbath right around the corner. Brace yourselves.
The recent greens on gradcafe are mostly offers from MIT and Chicago, and some from Princeton and Yale. UW's Math Dept is still silent, the Applied Math has given one (suspicious) offer, though.ThisFoodIsEW wrote:I don't think it's only top tier. OSU, Chicago, U Wash, Princeton have. Mine still says "pending"... Is it supposed to say that if you have turned everything in? I hope that doesn't mean that they haven't even received all my materials yet.goatman2743 wrote:OSU math has given offers? Or just Statistics?
It could also be that there's just much less candidates being accepted in mathematics departments.yl2868 wrote:the first page of math phds reports on gradcafe still has offers from last year...
I guess math is just slower in reviewing applications than other majors
Yeah, I thought the wording of that subject line was just cruel. "CAM Admitted Student Visit Days" . . . my heart jumped. I can see that they are trying to be considerate, giving people time to clear their calendar just in case, but the subject line could have been something more like "CAM Application Reviews in Progress, Important Upcoming Dates". You know, something that made it more obvious it had nothing to do with admissions decisionsppham27 wrote:Cornell CAM just sent a save the date notification for admitted students weekend. It seems weird to be told to save the date when I'm not sure if I'll even be admitted...
The Applied Math offer is pretty likely to be correct. I recently got an offer for even more than that one from UW Applied. I prefer to keep my info off of GC though since at least for now I don't want to be identified by anybody at the institutions I'm accepted at. Others may be in a similar situation, preferring to submit their results only when they see others doing so.yl2868 wrote:The recent greens on gradcafe are mostly offers from MIT and Chicago, and some from Princeton and Yale. Blah, sucks to hear that uw has sent out offers (but congrats!). Re GC: I also would be hesitant to be the first to post an admit to GC (if, hypothetically, I were accepted somewhere). Thinking about it though, this is probably extreme paranoia and I can't imagine that posting on gc would reflect negatively on you whatsoever, even if someone the school was able to identify you from the post.troopiedoop wrote:The Applied Math offer is pretty likely to be correct. It's definitely paranoia, but all the same I'd rather not do it. I still don't think the majority of UW applied math offers have gone out though, I think this is just their fellowships right now.goatman2743 wrote:

Also, looks like some Ohio State admits are up.
Think about it. How many people are going to reject the offer? So I'd assume it's less likely than for some other schools, but still possible. Nothing you can do about it now, just hope for the best.asdfqw wrote:Waitlisted by Princeton.... Heard before that it's extraordinarily unlikely to get off from Princeton's waiting list. You're waiting on ESAM too? Looks like we have quite a few programs in common.l0019 wrote:maybe northwestern ESAM?
only ESAM and ASU it looks like. Are you from the US?Gasquet wrote: You're waiting on ESAM too? Looks like we have quite a few programs in common.
congrats! they only have about 10-15 people to call though, right? seems like they would just do it all in one day. very jealous of you right now!!rmg123 wrote:I am not sure if ESAM has extended all offers, but I was called by the director yesterday about being admitted.
