I know someone else who turned them down earlier today, so hopefully there will be an open space for you. It seems like today and tomorrow is going to be a bit hectic.seanlikesmath wrote:If anyone here has been accepted to UNC and plans not to attend, I would very much appreciate you letting them know!
I'm also deciding between UNC and another place, but currently it's 51 - 49 UNC. Ugh.kailun wrote:I know someone else who turned them down earlier today, so hopefully there will be an open space for you. 30k? I hate you.seanlikesmath wrote:Sadly, it was not to be. I got their rejection last night. However, this means I took UCI's 30k offer with awesome research and flexibility, so all's well that ends well.
Nice. I actually took UNC's offer and turned the other, coincidentally also 30k, offer down. I'm having mixed feelings.seanlikesmath wrote:Sadly, it was not to be. I got their rejection last night. What did you decide on?! I'm honestly a little surprised that you're contemplating Utah over Chicago (I'm supposing University of Chicago)! You can't go wrong with either though and Utah does have some amazing algebraic geometry as I'm sure you know!rmhism wrote:I don't know where to go. I've narrowed my choices down to Utah or Chicago. I'm 60-70% sure I want to do something in algebraic geometry and 100% sure I want to do geometry. Anyone have any insight?
I think I'm leaning more towards Chicago, just because I'm afraid to commit so heavily to algebraic geometry or geometric group theory. Where did you decide to go? Did you attend Utah's visitor's day?ihatepencils wrote:What did you decide on?! I'm honestly a little surprised that you're contemplating Utah over Chicago (I'm supposing University of Chicago)! Are you seriously asking people to decline their offers just because they have offers from other universities? How about they should choose wherever they want to go, and take their time, so that they're sure they're making the right choice? Well, OK, I figured, but I get annoyed by posts like these, and thegradcafe has also been littered with this crap. It's not like people are just sitting on their asses. I mean, he said that those two people explicitly asked for extensions. Did they ask just to screw with him? No.avemarya wrote:^^ I'm thinking he is saying in case other people have already accepted offers elsewhere, but have not officially rejected ones from LSU (he said that a few posts ago explicitly.
Lots of people do that.Ryker wrote: It's not like people are just sitting on their asses.
Why u guys are so mean? I don't see any problems to ask someone declining offers if he/she is sure that he/she won't attend, especially LSU is his only choice now. Plus that it's already April 16 now, not declining LSU if someone has a better offer doesn't make senseRyker wrote:Are you seriously asking people to decline their offers just because they have offers from other universities? That ryker is very mean. Check its previous posts.boo78 wrote:I'd like to say that my job (giving final exams this week) and my kids (16mo and 3.5yr) are keeping me too busy to brood over this, but alas, I still seem to find the time. At least the program I applied to is very consistent in their first wave offers, so I practically know the day to expect something. But 3 weeks seems like so long right now . . .

Yes, it is a thing. It feels nothing, let alone compassion for fellow applicants.johngeller wrote:That ryker is very mean. He shared his opinion, I shared mine. In the end, what does it matter?yl2868 wrote:Why u guys are so mean? Is it true that Skynet sent you from the future to wreck John Connor's GRE math subject score?Ryker wrote:Yes, it is a thing. It feels nothing, let alone compassion for fellow applicants.
John Geller's GRE math subject score, actually.dasgut wrote:Is it true that Skynet sent you from the future to wreck John Connor's GRE math subject score?Ryker wrote:Yes, it is a thing. It feels nothing, let alone compassion for fellow applicants.

LOL. Why you coming at me, bro? I was talking John Connor, not John Geller.johngeller wrote:Congrats on your admission, dasgut. Otherwise, you will be here for another year. Keep working though you are not quite math material due to your persistence in this forum like a chewing gum.dasgut wrote:I will flush you muhfuggah!poop wrote:BAN DASGUT!
I saw that. Ryker killed a guy. Ryker, did you throw a trident?vashts85 wrote:Well that escalated quickly.
