Caltech CMS admit on GC. My dream school. :(

Anyone heard from Michigan AIM? There is a Applied Math admit on GC. Don't know whether that is AIM or not.

A guy from China seemed to get an admission from AIM last week.

I think Caltech sent out all their admits yesterday (including to me); plus they invited all their prospectives out to Cali for an interview day a few weeks ago.

That one Caltech post on GC vastly underrepresents the percentage of admits they made.

Purdue has already sent out the first round of admission, and it won't send out the second round shortly. Does it mean there is little hope of being admitted later. I'm sad :(. Cant stand this endless waiting. Only saw three posts on gradcafe now .

Has anyone heard back from Courant Institute for applied mathematics? Courant used to send admission letters before mid Feb, but so far there seems no admission result for applied maths on grad cafe.

If they wanted to accept me they firs let me know via email. Am I right?

I got an unofficial email from someone on the committee he didn't say if I would get accepted or not, but I got a letter about 5 days later. I received my letter though the last week of December...

I didn't get one either. Don't like the sound of this one bit.
Yeah, I got an offer on Tuesday (2/11) from NC State Applied Math. I wouldn't be surprised if more people are going to be accepted though. I'm going to visit and then will hopefully have a chance to visit another one of the schools I have an offer from so I can free up my spot in one of those programs in March for someone else to take.

I heard that at least as of 2/7 the adcom hasn't even met. I think they've got a new DGS so the process will prolly be slow this year.

I applied to UT Austin's Computational Science Engineering and Math (CSEM) PhD for this fall. I see that one person at GC stated "Interview via email" as at Feb 7th, but there are no other decisions listed there for this program this fall. My own status still reads "in review".

Is it usually a good sign if you don't get any response for a while (does it indicate a wait-list?), please does anyone know about this? :?

Also does anyone know anyone else who has already received a UT Austin decision for CSEM this Fall?

Sweating badly on this one because it is probably my final option right now. :(

I really don't know yet; we'll see how the visit days go. Caltech is a heavy favorite.

Their FAQ states:
The Graduate School does not provide the status of applications online, nor does it provide admissions decisions online or by telephone. The communicating of decisions varies by department. Most doctoral programs make their decisions in February and March. They arrange to have decisions mailed by mid- to late March. Master's and non-degree programs make their decisions at different times, beginning in early March. All decision notifications are done by email.
http://gsas.nyu.edu/object/grad.admissi ... issionsfaq

I guess it's a small possibility that they might communicate online, but I think I've seen most admissions on GradCafe offered through email.

I haven't heard anything from them yet though :(

Does anyone else who applied to UIUC have any guess as to whether they've sent out a whole first round of offers yet? The gc results are very strange; only three acceptances, and each on a different week.

I feel like schools are sitting on their hands this year. Maybe I'm just antsy, but it seemed like most of 'em get their first round out by mid/end of Feb and half of my schools haven't done a thing.

Should I call schools that have done their first round admits to see if I'm rejected? I'd much rather know now than in April. I feel like that wouldn't be inappropriate but it seems like a lot of people who call end up rejected...I dunno, I'm being superstitious.

When I get REALLY antsy I have other people call and not identify themselves. I usually have friends whose phones have different area codes do it.

Thanks for letting me know. If anyone else has heard from UIUC I'd appreciate it if you post. It's probably my top choice outside of UCLA, which I was already rejected from, so I'm really hoping I still have a shot.

Indeed! I'm really hoping that more will come because of the relatively low number of admits on grad cafe so far. How many more schools are you still waiting back from? I still have heard nothing from 6 schools!

In a way. I'd love to live there, but in terms of interest match it was in the bottom half of my list, since they don't have a lot of faculty doing research I want to do, and even those they do have are mostly on the applied side of it. Plus, the guaranteed TAship leaves something to be desired, as I'm not sure it's enough for a living there considering my current expenses. So it's a mixed bag of emotions concerning that one, to be honest. How about you, are you happy with Utah?

I'll probably post my profile in the future, but I kind of want to get a couple more admissions before I do that.

I am pretty happy with Utah. I'm mostly interested in going into either Representation Theory or Algebraic Geometry and they have great faculty in both of those areas. Salt Lake City also seems like a beautiful place to live so that helps too!

I'm also most likely going to Utah! And SLC is an amazing place. I had an REU there one summer and it never really got below 70 degrees outside. It's in a valley, so it never has bad weather (it probably rained once for 20 minutes). Also, the hiking paths are spectacular. I've got a few more reaches to hear back from and unless the offers I've already gotten offer better funding, it looks like I'm going to Utah. I'll also be focusing on Algebraic Geometry.

Also, are you visiting at the end of March?
