a chem-eng student seek advice for applied math phd apply

Post by yl2868 » Fri May 24, 2013 12:51 am

Hi guys

I'm currently a master student of chemical engineering who has picked a lot of (7 already and 5 in fall semester) math & a-math courses with perfect GPA, as well as 4 chemical engineering courses with only 3.25 (slight to no relation with math). Do you think this will actually hurt my chance to get an applied math PhD offer?

Meanwhile I don't have one course in any kind of pure algebra (though I have taken a course in Principle of app math, which deals with topics in linear algebra, ODE and elementary functional analysis), and I will have to choose one between dynamical system and abstract algebra II in fall 2013. Which one do you think is better? I believe my field of interest is (numerical) PDE.

Thank you guys :o
