Hi all,
I am STILL waiting on any form of communication from UIC. I applied to the pure math PhD program with interests in arithmetic geometry. I emailed the grad director some time ago at dgs@math.uic.edu and received the generic response
Thank you for your interest in our graduate program. We are processing all admissions applications at this time, and will contact you as soon as we have more definite information. Applicants can also check their application status online starting in mid March. We will enter admissions decisions there, as soon as they are made.
which I believe some others on this site received as well. Has anyone recently received any correspondence from them? Should I try and e-mail again?
Thanks in advance!

i am still waiting news from uic too. i also sent them an email 15 days ago and received the very same email and also thinking about sending them another email. but i fear that i will receive a very similar email or will be rejected with the incoming email. this is the last university that i am still waiting for a result.

I sent them two emails on the dgs email id. No reply to the first one(21 days ago). Second one(12 days ago) got the same automated response as you guys mentioned. In addition, it mentioned

"If you are inquiring about something other than your admission status, we will get back to you as soon as possible."

I guess that means that they are not going to respond to admission status inquiries.

we should inform each other whenever we hear from them either positively or negatively. sending them another email, knowing them they wont reply at all, is useless.

in fact, i did something different than asking the grad chair, i asked a friend, a phd student there, to ask them directly. and he told me that they put me on a waitlist and i still have a chance. but i am afraid that the waitlist may be the list of whole students who are not admitted until now.

it is really depressing when they told you that you will learn the result in mid-march and they don't inform you.

and whole my future depends on a single sentence they will say.

Okay, so I have a question to those who have been admitted there. Are you guys planning on going to UIC? If not, have you already rejected the offer?

Just saw a rejection for UIC on the gradcafe, so I checked my status online and it said "deny".

If you're still waiting, you should probably go check.

Checked mine too. No update. Still says "Referred to College for Review" in the 'Decision' field and "Application Materials Received - Please await further updates" in the 'Status' field. It has been like this for a month.

This should be a good sign. I assume this means we are wait-listed as they have sent rejections. There is a third reject up on GC now.

So, the usual, people with admits who don't plan on going there, please please decline it soon and help a fellow applicant out.

do you think they will send another round of admissions? there were many students admitted more than they need.

On what information is this based? I do recall seeing a lot of admits this year on GC, but then there were a similar number two years ago too.

Last two years there has been at least one funded admit in April.

Edit: I checked again, and still no update. There is now a fourth reject on GC. So, they must have sent out a rejection wave.

Hey everyone, I recently graduated with a Masters Degree in Applied Math from UIC. What I can say is I remember it taking them quite a while to give out decisions, they're very slow with those things. Also, the assistant dgs that basically does EVERYTHING there just retired, so there is a brand new assistant dgs who doesn't really know what is going on yet. Also, they rotate the actual dgs every couple years, and this so happens to be the year that it's a new dgs as well. So they are quite inexperienced right now in the head office there, which is probably leading to a lot of chaos and confusion and slowing things down. Be patient though, I'm sure they'll get it all done soon.
