Ah :) I know someone there now who scored 30th percentile on the subject test. They are also a female minority that participated in the Berkeley Edge Conference, where she apparently convinced them she could do it. But I will say she is having a hard time passing the prelim (has taken it like 4 times I think).

I applied to 10 applied math programs and only got a rejection from UW (seattle).

This does not bode well. I have a feeling they send out all the acceptance first and then the rejections much later. I applied last year and my experience is that interviews/acceptance were sent to me very early, while the schools I didn't heard from until late usually ends in rejection.
You guys aren't alone there.

What do you guys think?
From my consultations with the holy books, your chances are very good. Further the holy books inform me that the first wave of admits will be sent this week. Best of luck for that.

I don't get why they are still keeping the rest of us(who didn't receive the further questions) waiting. If they just don't plan on accepting any of us under any circumstances, why not just reject us?

Nothing like waking up to find an unofficial rejection waiting for you in your inbox in reply to a simple inquiry about transcripts. Ahhhh...this is the life. :P

It looks like Wisconsin-Madison has sent out at least four rejections today. (According to GC.)

Has anyone gotten any news from Brown DAM (Applied) ? According to past years posts on GC it should have sent acceptances from about 2-4 of February.. There is no post on GC for this year, but this does not mean that there have been no acceptances so far.. :?

There have not been any reports of admits either here or on GC.
I too was expecting Brown DAM to reply in the first two weeks of Feb. Guess they are not following their usual dates this year.

I actually thought I would get in there... I am starting to doubt my statement of purpose, because my standard metrics (GPA/GRE/MGRE) are comparable (and many cases better) to those that have been admitted to multiple schools where I have been rejected. And I am an American too...

I asked Brown DAM and they said the decisions were only sent out this week.

That's rough. With that score, I'm quite sure you will get into several top tier schools.

I'm applying for pure math. My background is a little weird. I finished my BA in math with a minor in physics in 3 years and decided to do a BS in computer engineering since it would take 2 more years. I'm interested in some of the algorithmic and computational aspects of low-dimensional topology and knot theory. There seem to be people studying those kinds of things at UC Davis, Duke, and also UPenn, which I applied to too.
Ah I see, in that case I won't be able to offer any new information. I heard from Davis last week, but from their applied program. Grad cafe has a few acceptances so if you haven't heard it might be worth it to email and ask. In any case, good luck with your apps!

Log in. Click on your application for a more detailed view. Scroll down and look for a header "Decision". If it is there, you will link to a PDF file. If not, then maybe they have not yet decided your fate.

Well you should have gotten in Brown.

But I believe you'll be receiving some equally good offers elsewhere.

Got off the waitlist from Northwestern! I feel the harpoon that was once plunged into my heart has been removed, and filled with warm fuzzy feelings. If any of you have ever played a MOBA, and gotten a 5-man kill, or a beautiful first blood, this is how it feels like, but 10x.

P.S. Did they say anything about the state of the waitlist, e.g. are they sending out more this week?

Haha, certainly would have eased the soul. The e-mail I got was an informal offer, but I had asked earlier, and he said that they were supposed to have a meeting sometime this week where they would discuss next round of admission and by late Friday afternoon, they would have more stuff to say. Worst comes to worst, e-mailing is good.

You should do more so that they will say "we shouldn't have waitlisted you."

The admission was to the master's program, and the poster indicates that funding was not an object. So no, it means nothing.

I got my official acceptance (from both the math department and graduate college along with my initial funding package) from UIUC for their pure math Ph.D. program on January 29th and found out that I was nominated for a graduate fellowship on February 15th. I think they have been giving out initial acceptances for a couple of weeks already.

Yeah I know you have been admitted ...
but no ...
look I don't why but UIUC has the habit of making some initial offers the first weeks of Feb (or in your case the end of Jan) but then make a big chunk of offers on the third week of Feb
I really don't know why they are doing it but they do this every year ...
Particular most international students seems to get their offers at that time.

By the way, 1lovingsister may I ask which field you stated as your field of interest when you applied to UIUC ?
Could you pm me if you don't want to write it here ?
Thanks

Don't think that. I'm a veteran from last year (obviously without the wanted success).
So, I'm speaking from personal experience (which you fortunately lack :D )

This may have been mentioned, but do you guys think there are any negative consequences to emailing a department/admissions to ask about your status? I suppose one could always do it under the veil of another inquiry, and hope that they tell you whether or not a decision has been rendered.

I'm really wanting to check about Rutgers, since they seem to wait until mid-late March to send rejections. I have spoken with a professor there about working on a specific research project, but it seems inappropriate/awkward to contact him directly.

I would email Rutgers. Just email the graduate secretary if you don't feel comfortable asking the professor specifically. I emailed the graduate secretary about a request they had made on my application and she told me:

"Our Admissions Committee has finished their review of applications to our PhD program, and has begun to make their initial offers. I regret to inform you that we are unlikely to make you an offer. Your application does have multiple strong points. However, we have a large pool of over 350 applications, with many impressive applications, including yours, and with only a few openings this year, this forces us to turn down many strong applicants. We wish you the best in your future career."

I'm guessing you can probably find out where you stand if you shoot off a quick email.

Woke up to see that I am part of Brown DAMs blood bath. 4th reject. Future prospects looking bleak. I too am wondering whether I have made some terrible mistake in my personal statement.

Incidentally, the email arrived exactly 10 minutes after my last post here stating that Brown DAM is late in replying compared to previous years.
