Yep. From what I saw, many schools start sending out results in pure math before applied math. Hopefully we should start hearing back this week.

Probably. You can look at the schools I have applied to in the profiles thread. Maybe you could post yours there too.

Regarding the 80th percentile in MGRE for Berkeley, I believe there was a thread about it.

@L3inad Could you please tell me what specific sub-field of mathematics have you written about as your prospective research interest in your statement to the University of Illinois Urbana? I mean, I'm somebody who's mostly interested in probability, and I don't know whether schools send out offers/rejections at different points of time depending on the subjects people are interested in. But your post kind of suggested that the second round is mostly the specialists in your chosen area looking through your application. So that's why I was just wondering...

I am interested in combinatorics. More specifically, I am interested in probabilistic methods. So far I have only heard back from schools that have an emphasis on this field. I have not heard back from the schools that are good in algebra per say.

My Buckeye Link page on Ohio State University's website (so, go to MyOSU) has the following, though I never received any official notification and my application is still under review apparently:
3 Department Internal Procedure Completed Graduate Program Office

This item will be completed by the program if admission is offered to you - no action is required on your part. Having a status of "Incomplete" will not delay the processing of your application.
So... have I been admitted? Looks like it!

Great, have to add "visit each online application" to my hourly rotation of email, mathematicsgre.com, and gradcafe results.

PS congrats :)

I have got official acceptance from OSU via email a few days ago, but I'm going to decline it as I have got better offer. For my case, actually I've got 'completed' status on 'department internal procedure' since long time ago, once I completed all the admission requirements (i.e. send transcripts, test scores, etc.).
Once I got official acceptance, there are additional comments in myOSU status on 'department internal procedure' column saying 'dept will pay', and there will be additional rows on 'Graduate program funding', saying that 'you have been awarded financial support from your graduate program'. In my case, even after I got official acceptance, the status is still 'in review' though.

Just some information for those who are interested.

For some reason, on the OSU application status website my general GRE scores are marked as recieved, but my subject scores haven't arrived. This is very strange, since I sent them together. Anyone else have this problem?

I had that problem before. I sent an email to gradadmis@esue.ohio-state.edu and had them update my GRE Subject status.

My OSU appstatus says that I am missing pretty much everything, although I know that that is not true. From what I can ascertain, it seems that there is a new admin asst who has not quite figured out the digital filing system.

My appstats says that the internal procedure was incomplete and I am thinking about calling the department graduate program coordinator to ask if there is any final decision on my application or should I just email them?

They won't have made a decision yet. The committee typically agrees on which international students to admit earlier because of the complications with visas that require more time. If you are international then you should call, if not they probably have not made a decision yet.

Will UCLA make decisions for international students this or coming week? I mean, till now all the acceptance and rejections from UCLA are of American applicants, according to gradcafe. :?

Hope they have not finished sending offers and hopefully they have not begun sending offers to international students like me.

I checked my UT Austin application status and it says:
"Your file has been forwarded to the Graduate Committee for review. As soon as a decision is made it will be posted on this page and you will be notified by email."

Do you guys think this is good or bad considering that I am international and have not received anything?
Does UT Austin send rejection emails?

Mine still looks like that. They will most likely notify you of the decision before it changes online, I'd imagine. Just my guess though.

The same hourly rotation is really futile in the daytime of the Indian time zone.

No new emails(from schools), (practically) no new posts here, (practically) no new results GC.

Just a general question to everybody: Has any of the people who are interested primarily in probability and have applied in mathematics departments received acceptances from these maths departments? In my institute, there are loads of people getting accepted in top-shot statistics programmes, but as yet, there's hardly a word from any of the maths departments that some of us have ventured to apply in.

For example, there are a number of admits in the pure and applied maths sections of MIT. But there's also a third subdivision in the maths department of MIT: probability and statistics. So, please let me know if some of you have started receiving offers from maths schools where you are interested in pursuing probability, especially if you are an international student.

I'm interested in probability and I sent my applications to maths departments (Also international). Haven't heard anything yet. I'm starting to think I should've applied to stats programs, they seem much easier to get into.

That is what it seems now. And maths programmes apparently take a whole lot of time to declare results. Minnesota and Washington both will declare their decisions no sooner than March. Illinois Urbana will probably bring out the results by the end of February. That's about the earliest.

But you know what? Applying in maths departments has certain advantages too. If we wish to study mainstream probability (and not just applied stuff, but hard-core theoretical business) then I guess apart from Berkeley Stat, there's hardly any stat department which can give us that flavour. Let's wait and see...(as if we can do anything else) :?

It seems like Applied Math PhD departments will be sending out decisions (much) later than Pure Math PhD departments. I've talked to a few professors in applied math and operations research programs, and they said they've only just barely begun to look at applications, and that decisions probably won't come out until mid-February, at the earliest. So for us Applied Math applicants, it looks like the wait will be a bit longer.
Could you mention which schools you are referring to?

I am feeling disoriented for the last few weeks because of checking email, mgre forum and Grad cafe constantly.
The only time I'm not online is when I am sleeping and I didn't have a good nights sleep for weeks now.

The only reply I got in the mean time was that one of my recommenders didn't submit his recommendations to one of my top choices but then the POI I contacted in that university told me that even 2 was enough and I shouldn't worry. Maybe he was talking about 2 being enough for getting rejected...

I hate this...

maybe all of us should hold off on posting decisions to gradcafe until mid march. that way, maybe next years applicants will think decisions don't come out until march, thus giving them the ability to get through february without constantly checking mgre, gradcafe and email...they might even be able to get some sleep......

So, I know all of you guys have been putting up with this for a couple of weeks now, but it's just starting to get close to the time when people have heard replies from the schools I'm applying to (according to grad cafe from previous years). However, I've been obsessing about it for a couple of weeks already and I'm starting to go crazy. Seriously.
