A place for venting over your PhD applications related anxiety and/or frustration.

Sweat it out.

I feel the same way! I applied to 14 schools, including 2 MA programs to hedge my bets. Honestly, I don't have a back up plan if I don't get in! It's pretty scary haha

Most of these schools haven't even looked at your application (or anyone else's) yet. I wouldn't start worrying til at least February.

The wait is killing me too. I've submitted all my applications, but some schools haven't received my official transcripts and I'm not too sure why (I submitted them in November) =/

Well, I guess this kind of anxious waiting is part and parcel of the entire application process. I don't have any back-up plans for that matter... I have sat one admission exam for a graduate institution in my own country, and will probably sit for another soon, but I'm not at all sure whether I shall succeed in either of them. And I did not opt for any job. So, yeah, just in case all the schools decide against accepting me, I shall be in a fix. But I shall try not to lose my sleep (and my head) over it :)

Probably less! Many schools send out acceptances/rejections in the first week of February :)

It's not checked off for me as well. Also, I just realized that I forgot to send my Community College transcripts to UW Madison. I only went there in high school (I was homeschooled) so I'm hoping they'll still review my application even though they don't have that transcript. I requested a transcript today.

Good to know! I emailed UW-Madison and they said that they had tons of mail to open. But my transcripts reached my other schools, so I'm assuming it got to Madison.

Another question for you guys: has anyone successfully gotten their GRE scores to Caltech? I sent mine in November and emailed them a couple days ago. They replied saying they haven't received them. So I sent them again, but it still hasn't shown up in their system.

I haven't applied to Caltech, but I have the same problem with Columbia. Anybody else not have their GRE scores reach Columbia? This is all according to the application checklist in the status webpage.

I'm not even sure who to contact about this, as the department only lists a phone number that's unresponsive.

My official GRE scores aren't checked off at Columbia either, even though I know other schools which have them. I assume they're just slow to check it off.

My scores are still being "awaited" at Columbia, too. I emailed them on the 7th and haven't heard back yet.

So according to this website (http://thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=math*), last year U of Chicago sent out acceptances on January 12. Will they be sending them out so early again this year???

I saw this too. Last year, January 12 was a Thursday, so I thought there was a slight chance we might hear from UChicago today, haha

By your logic, I think it will be a week from today. I compared their academic calendars for UChicago and since this year was a little later, I think it will be the 17

Hi, does anyone have any idea when MIT is going to send out their admission results? Their website says they declare admission results between late January and April 15th, but well, they also clearly state that they do not offer rolling admissions, so it should not matter to them who accepts and who rejects their offers. So, if you guys come up with any information as to the approximate time they send out the results, please let me (and the rest of us who have applied in MIT) know. Do they also send the rejection letters at the same time? Asking this because I totally believe I have a very thin chance of making it to their shortlist :(

For any such results, check out the results section on gradcafe, with a appropriate search string. For example,
http://thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=mit+math*
http://thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=math*

@prokaryote, variationofhedges: Were you guys offered fellowships? I ask because I'm surprised there hasn't been more notifications, either here or on thegradcafe's survey. Perhaps they are still planning to make more offers?

I was accepted to UChicago (Pure Math) with full support, fellowship, etc. Does anyone know how I should inform them that I will have to wait before making a final decision (without mentioning other schools)?

Couldn't you just not reply until you've made a decision? If they haven't given you a deadline for response then I don't see what the problem is. I wonder if UChicago is done giving offers or whether they've just given out first round offers. Also, is there any way you can share your stats? Sorry for being annoying.

The email is from a professor there, and I think it would be rude to at least not acknowledge the receipt of the email. I will send you a private message.

My apologies, I thought it was an automated email. I'm sure they would understand if you told them you wanted to wait. They probably know that most schools haven't received decisions yet. Also thank you!

@boxedexe You may write something of the form: "I am so glad because of this very generous offer, Sir / Ma'am. I shall get back to you the moment I make up my mind about attending the University of Chicago".

However this is only a suggestion, and I am quite naive in these matters. It's what my professor told me to write should I receive any offer and decide to wait for other offers. So before you send the email, may be you should seek the advice of one of your own professors.

From my experience, admits and rejects come our really close together. In this case, no news is relatively good news.

Well the University of Chicago normally has the habit of admitting students with email bad rejecting them with letter (normal post) ...
so the rejection will come a few days later (depends of course how far away you are from Chicago)
so we have to wait a few days for the rejections to come
