Official Transcripts - Not always required even if stated!

Just in case anyone is also worrying about transcript issues.

Several schools state on their website that official transcripts must be mailed to the department.

But on the actual application itself, and on the graduate admissions website, they say unofficial transcripts uploaded to the form is OK. Official ones are only needed if you get admitted.

Very annoyed at some schools who required official transcripts after you uploaded an unofficial one.

I wonder if any of the schools actually care, as long as you have an uploaded one. I would imagine at worst they'd just email you telling you to send an official one, rather than disqualify or delay your application - unless the University administration forced them.

I hope not!

After applying to around 15 schools over the last 3 years for masters and PhDs, including several top 10-20 programs, I was blindsided by a few schools asking for paper transcripts in order for the application to be considered complete.

As a result, I couldn't submit my transcript request before the Universities' Christmas break (21 Dec to 1 Jan!!!), and the deadlines are mostly 15 Jan. :(

Four of my schools require official transcripts, so I sent them out in late November. However, they still haven't shown up as checked off. Has anyone else had their transcripts marked off at Maryland or UW-Madison?
